WINTER SAVORY

Winter Savory is easy to grow and is an attractive addition to the herb garden. Bushier and with a woodier stem than Summer Savory, the shiny dark green pointed leaves have a much stiffer texture that Summer Savory. The strong spicy pepper-like flavor is not as sweet as Summer Savory but blends well with oregano, thyme and basil and complements meat, poultry, fish, adds flavor to cheese spreads and dried it perks up stuffings. This aromatic herb is often used to flavor liqueurs, garnish a salad or steep for tea. Fresh Winter Savory loses some of its intensity during cooking.
